Deep Breath is a contemporary dance performance that reinterprets the life of Korean sea women, known as 'Haenyeo', through the lens of human breath. Inspired by their daily struggle for survival, where every breath is precious yet often sacrificed, the performance captures the essence of their deep journey. The profound breaths of the 'Haenyeo', filled with the trials of their existence, resonate deeply within the performance.
The concept of 'Breath' in Korean traditional dance symbolises the harmony between body and mind, serving as a means to express our inner selves. This power of breath fosters understanding and empathy across cultures, crucial in today's globalised society for respecting diversity through shared experiences.
Deep Breath combines choreography, projection, light, and sound to immerse the audience in the graceful movements of the 'Haenyeo' and the depths of the sea, evoking reflection and resonance through the fusion of human breath and oceanic sounds. It aims to unite people in the depth of life's moments through movement, fostering connection and resonance.
In collaboration with choreographer Donna Kim, JUE Studio contributed sound design and stage visual art for Deep Breath. Utilizing dynamic projections and soundscapes, we sculpted an immersive audiovisual experience that mirrors the depths of the ocean and the breath of the Haenyeo. Through multimedia storytelling, we amplified the core concept of "breath," fostering an environment where audiences can deeply connect with the emotions and narratives woven into the performance.
Deep Breath 是一个以“呼吸”为主题的当代舞蹈作品，重新诠释了“海女”这一群体的生命故事。海女的日常是与生存抗争的旅程，每一口呼吸都弥足珍贵，却往往需要舍弃。作品通过舞蹈和多媒体艺术，将她们深邃的呼吸和生命的试炼具象化，探寻这份来自深海的精神力量。
在韩国传统舞蹈中，“呼吸”象征着身体与心灵的和谐，是表达内心世界的重要媒介。Deep Breath以“呼吸”的概念为纽带，超越文化界限，探讨如何在当代社会中通过共同体验来尊重多样性，并培养相互理解与共情。
这部作品融合了编舞、视觉投影、灯光与声音设计，以沉浸式的方式将观众带入海女优雅的动作与深海的意境之中。水下世界的声音与人类的呼吸节奏交织，创造出一个共鸣的场域，引发对生命深度的反思。通过舞蹈的流动性， Deep Breath试图在生命深处的瞬间，凝聚人与人之间的联系与共鸣。
在本次合作中，我们参与了声音设计和舞台视觉艺术的创作。通过动态投影技术与声景设计，勾勒出深海的视觉与听觉层次，为舞者的肢体表现提供了一个深邃的艺术空间。通过多媒体叙事，我们赋予了“呼吸”这一核心概念以更具感官共鸣的呈现，使观众能更深层次地融入作品的情感世界。
